This past month has been pretty smooth sailing here in
Peru. We haven't had any strikes or major earthquakes,
and the weather has been perfect.
At the beginning of April, I took the boys to Arequipa to
preach for Pastor Alex and his Anniversary Campaign. They
have been over 6 years in Congata. We have been trying to
help them construct a church building. We have built a
temporary building out of plywood and a tin roof; buthey
still lack a LOT to make it fully functional. But they
would never complain! Pray for Source of Light BC. Any
designated gifts can be sent to the mission. Pastor
Alex's wife is expecting in June, so remember her in
prayer as well.
Here in Tacna, our one year old work, Grace BC, continues
to grow. This last Thursday we had a full house. I am
preaching on the New Testament local church and this week
I taught on Baptism. We had 8 people that made the
decision to get baptized! We also had a number of new
attenders make salvation decisions. Without a doubt, one
of the greatest spiritual joys we can enjoy before heaven
is to see a new church grow! To see God save souls and
change lives is a little bit of heaven here on earth.
Last night we had a couple's activity with 11 couples
represented from both churches. We had extended a special
invitation to David and Maritza. They are having serious
marital problems and we were able to be a blessing to them
last night. Pray for their salvation. Also remember
Denis and Magali, Richard and Roxana and Luis and Marilyn.
They are all struggling with some pretty serious marital
problems.
We would ask you to pray for Mery Pongo and Soyla Humire,
both very dear ladies in our minitry. Mery, our
houskeeper, has been battling cancer since September of
last year. Her prognosis is not good and though we try to
help financially as much as possible, she is not receiving
the best care possible. Soyla, the mother of two of our
Sunday School teachers, was diagnosed with cancer last
week. She was able to go to Lima to get surgery and start
right away on chemotherapy. We know God can use these
times of crisis in our church family to bring us together
and strengthen the family bond we are striving to develop.
Sometimes we forget how blessed we are! Yesterday I was
reviewing the Sunday School teachers attendance sheet and
realized we have 25 on the roll! Just a few years ago I
called Sunday School "Family" Sunday School, because I was
the only Sunday School teacher and we just did one big
class! What a blessing to know that our labors and your
prayers are not in vain! We give God the glory for what
He is doing here in Peru!
Please pray for a number of ministry changes that we will
be making. School just restarted in March, so we need to
make some adjustments. Pray for our Men's ministry that
we are "restarting". Also, we will be moving our Wed.
night kids program to Saturday afternoon. We are also
starting new discipleship classes with our new converts as
well as advanced studies with growing Christians. So much
to accomplish with only one missionary family. Please
pray that the Lord would raise up another family who would
share our heart and vision for the ministry. Missionaries
don't go to Bible Colleges and interview job applicants.
We don't just hire staff. We have to rely on God's
people being sensitive to His still small voice as He
calls laborers into His harvest field. Have you heard
that voice?
